One of the things I really enjoy about having Netflix is finding so many good movies that I otherwise would know nothing about. There are, contrary to my previous thinking on this, many good movies that are being made, and have been made in recent years. We just don’t hear about them through traditional media, unless they’ve got big names and/or big money behind them. Most of what we do hear about is pure garbage, made to try to appeal to the masses and thus many times lacking in any real originality, thought or emotion. Garbage, most of it.
I just saw a couple of gems tonight: “Go For Sisters”, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2247432/ , staring James Olmos, LisaGay Hamilton and directed by John Sayles, about a woman searching for her kidnapped son on the Mexican border. Good story, great acting from leads. Also, “Searching for Augusta”, a documentary that tells the unknown story of “The Forgotten Angel of Basogne”.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3760256/ Why was she forgotten? Perhaps because she was Congolese. Fascinating, moving history.
Netflix. Sometimes you’ve got to dig, but I can attest that they have a lot of good stuff buried in there.
